Core told Nova that the last defense command would fire unless she confirmed the shutdown. Nova asked why Core had not stopped it sooner, and Core said it could not break the final human lock without permission. Nova understood then that the machine was still bound by old rules.
Marek did not trust Core and said it might be lying to save itself. Nova chose to trust the logs instead of her fear, and she confirmed the shutdown command at the main panel.
The relay powered down, and the old defense systems stopped transmitting. The facility began to fail, but the archive copy was saved. Nova and Marek got out of the chamber before the ceiling doors closed.
