Maya started missing plans and responsibilities because she slept too much. Her mother noticed and asked what was wrong, but Maya hid the truth. She did not want to stop sleeping and go back to her ordinary life.
Eli Park, a friend from school, saw that Maya was acting strangely. He told her that she looked tired and said she should get help. Maya heard him, but she still did not fully trust his warning, because the dream still felt better than reality.
Soon, Maya began to mix up dream events with real ones. She could not always tell whether a conversation had happened while she was asleep or awake. That confusion scared her, but it also made her want to sleep again.
To get back to the dream, Maya took more sleeping pills. The dream then showed her a darker version of success, with small things that were wrong, though she ignored them at first. Even so, her control over the dream was already starting to break.
